another demo of “mars over sea,” another month into progress (last demo).
today luke added accordion, and a few weeks ago adam laid down banjo.
this version has more updated lyrics with some harmonies, and also contains all four verses instead of just the first two.
updated words:
i hate wires, bug, i learn to use them
you’ve broken my bones next to the kitchen
mars is over the seatwo years ago, bug, i sat in space
rocking chair in hughes, lonesome blue egg
mars is over the seathis song would be, fellow hollow again
but it won’t be me, won’t be me, won’t that not be me again?
mars is over the seatoo many miles, and itches from the kitchen sink
half-grand a month for two fonds in one piece
mars is over the seaeach time we record a new instrument it seems it starts to take a different route altogether, which is great in my opinion - mars is coming together! so much joy to hear these songs develop each day, every time someone else jumps in. it’s the greatest blessing, it’s not something i’d trade.
also check our first single from the forthcoming album, called “the colours i earned,” and feel free to download it from bandcamp.

Little snipit of a new song I’m learning <3
ME AND DREW DOING THINGS!
a cover keira and i did of “lusitania” by andrew bird from his new album, break it yourself, which was released last week.
download?
i’ve been listening to this album a lot ever since getting my hands on it and i like it so much. i don’t think he’ll make a record that i enjoy more than armchair apocrypha but i do think that break it yourself beats out noble beast.
if you loosen liable lips
you keep sinking all my ships
oh, and you’re the one who sank my lusitania
but somehow it don’t register as pain at all
‘til it finds our crooked vein
it should help
oh, let’s not remember the nameoh, you made lines along your shore
oh, through my heart that ripped and tore
oh, we don’t study this war no moreso we let our backbones slip
‘til the arc spits from my fingertips
and we’ll become a hazard in the rain
boy, we’ll get charged out in the way
and there’s a 60-cycle hum
go ahead, say something dumb, boy there’s no shame
there’s no shame
go ahead, say something dumb, boy there’s no shameoh, you laid mines along your shore
oh, through my heart that ripped and tore
oh, we don’t study this war no more
keira and i, we’ve been meaning to record something together for a while now. this was a lot of good fun. i love her voice so much. more than st. vincent’s. good, keira, gold star.
also, she’s in a band with two other good friends called caitlyn and alayna and they are called scrimshaw and the mariner. listen!

Cambo
I hate it when people call it “cambo” but its just so dang catchy and I can’t stop.
But yes, you heard correctly- IM GOING TO CAMBODIA! (at the end of July, beginning of August)
And I’ll be posting updates on this here blog, so GET READY!
another doodle of “beth/rest” from bon iver (2011).
this was done the day after this’un, about a month and a half ago. if i’d had my recording equipment with me the next day, i would have fancied this take a lot more. it’s all about the environment for me. adam and i got to hughes auditorium a bit earlier than the rest of the group to work on our lp. resulting feeling was nostalgic peacefulness. man, two years ago. that place holds a real place in my ribcage.
this was recorded on my phone, which is why the vocals are hard to hear. but i need you to see my favorite place in the world and hear my favorite piano in the world. a real mellow baldwin upright.
here are the words again, since you can scarcely hear me do ‘em, ‘cept i do change them up a bit for my own flavor, ok.
errant heat to the star
and the rain let in
the hawser rolls, the vessel’s whole and christ, it’s thinwell i’d know that you’d offer
would reveal it, though it’s soft and flat
won’t repeat it, cull and coffer’s that
for the soffit, hang this homeward
pry it open with your love
sending lost and alone standing offersit is sleep / it is stone
such recovery
from the daily press, the deepest nest, in keeper’s keepall the news at the door
such a revelry
well, it’s hocked inside of everything you said to meit was found what we orphaned
didn’t mention it would serve us picked
said your love is known
i’m standing up on itaren’t we married?!
i ain’t living in the dark no more
it’s not a promise, i’m just gonna call itheavy mitted love
our love is a star
sure some hazardry
for the light before and after most indefinitelydanger has been stole away
this is axiom
as an update here,
working on an lp with deadwood floats,
thinking about covering bon iver’s “calgary” as i just learned to play it,
also thinking about doing a beirut song from the rip tide with lauren doing trumpet,
bit of an electro-acoustic side project with nuclear grizzly from portland,
possibly other things as well.bonne nuit! time to get back to this poly sci exam booklet, test is in seven hours.

Amina- By Deadwood Floats.
(this is the way that scrimshaw likes to do it.)
More sicky songs. At this rate I’m not going to have a voice.
Blind Pilot- New York (We are the Tide)
Look at my bran-new spakin-hawt ukulele. (thanks caitlyn).
I decided to capture the glory of this instrument on video with one of my favorite Blind Pilot songs, one that they played at their concert (which was AMAZING). They truly have a way with words and melodies.
I’m also super sick while recording it… so I hope you like okay.
